Weekly Watch Photo – A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst
Some weeks ago A. Lange & Söhne divulged what in my eyes is the most beautiful watch in the current assortment. It’s a special restricted edition of the Zeitwerk ‘Handwerkskunst’.
In my opinion the Lange Zeitwerk, that was released late 2009 , is perhaps the best watches available on the market today. This new form with a hand iced black-rhodium white gold dial, some way or another culminated the vibes of the Zeitwerk even more.
The white gold dial has been black rhodium completed, something rare as usually rhodium finish is utilized to make metals (generally white gold) look more glossy and white. The icing is also something rare and can just be found on a hand-loaded with watches. I realize Peter Speake-Marin did several commissioned pieces with a hand-iced dial, Kari Voutilainen’s Minute Repeater 10 (a novel piece) and this Observatoire feature hand-iced completing on scaffolds and the Greubel Forsey GMT features hand-iced spans and plates.
The contrast between the hand-iced black-rhodium white gold dial and the (also) rhodium completed German silver looks simply staggering. While German silver (an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc ) is normally utilized for spans of just a couple of real very good quality watches, it’s a remakrable decision of A. Lange & Söhne to use it on the dial for what they call the ‘timebridge’. It’s decorated with an exceptionally decent linear graining.
The time connect ‘holds’ all time indications: the large white numerals of great importance and moment displays as well as the gray seconds dial in strong silver. The platinum case of the Zeitwerk has the stunning completed that we know from Lange & Söhne, with cleaned bezel, drags and case back, while the mid case features a pleasant linear brush finishing.
The Lange Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst is restricted to 30 pieces and may be available in A. Lange & Söhne shops around the world. For more information, please check the A. Lange & Söhne site .
